How well does it work?
Hoover has become well-known for their Spin Scrub brush technology, meaning the brushes counter-rotate, scrubbing the floor from all different angles. This means more ground-in dirt and grime will be picked up than if you had a machine with bristles going in just one direction.
Since it comes with both a hard and soft brush head that is very gentle, it won’t scratch your hardwood floors or other smooth surfaces. Instead, it can safely scrub tile, grout, vinyl, linoleum, marble, laminate and even sealed wood. Afterword, if you need to clean out the brush, it is very easy to remove so you can get it clean as well. The nozzle is also removable so you can rinse off the squeegee when you’re done.
As far as the tanks, the Hoover FloorMate Deluxe has separate tanks for dirty and clean water, so you know you’re not washing your floor with water that’s already been used. The tanks are 1.5 quarts each and they’re easy to fill and rinse out.
The FloorMate has two separate modes: One to wash and one to dry. In wash mode, the brushes scrub the floor, and the machine sucks up any excess water. In dry mode, the bristles do not spin. Instead, the Deluxe just sucks up any excess water that has accumulated on the floor to help it dry faster.
As far as using the cleaning solution, this unit works best when used with Multi Floor Plus 2x, which you can buy at retailers but can find for a better deal online. In fact,
How hard is it to use?
While it looks like a big monster, this machine is actually very easy to use. First, you put hot water into the clean water tank (you can hold it under the faucet if it’s more convenient). Then, pour the cleaning solution into that tank according to the directions on the bottle. Place the tank back in the machine.
From there, you just need to turn it on and select Wash mode. The brushes start to spin while the vacuum squeegees the floor to get up excess water as you pull it along. The dirty water sucked up goes into the dirty water tank.
After your floors are clean, remove the dirty water reservoir and dump it out. You can rinse out the container in the sink if you’d like. Then, if you are feeling really spry and your floors were exceptionally filthy, you can pop off the vacuum cleaner head to rinse out the brushes and squeegee, but you don’t have to do this every time you use it.
One important thing to note is that this is not a carpet cleaner. It is meant for use on bare floors only. If you’re looking for something that can do a good job scrubbing carpets, the Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe is a very good option. If you need a machine that will clean both, the Shark Sonic Duo is a nice lightweight alternative.

Cons
While users overall really love this machine and say it does a fantastic job in their reviews, one thing they say could use improvement is the edge cleaning. A review from Judy, who uses it on her hardwood floors, says it doesn’t clean quite all the way up to her baseboards, as the brushes are recessed a little bit. However, she says overall those areas are very small and can easily be cleaned up with a mop or even a sponge.
Final Thoughts
If you have enough grime and dirt on your bare floors and grout that even a steam mop won’t get up, the Hoover Floormate Deluxe is a good machine for you. It’s lightweight, has separate tanks for dirty and clean water, and the cleaning solutions are reasonably priced. Reports from consumers give it 4 out of 5 stars, a very good rating. Overall, it’s a great investment if you want your floors to shine like new. If you’d like to buy one,
