Dyson DC40 Review – Read This Before You Buy

So who doesn’t want a Dyson vacuum cleaner? They seem to be the industry gold standard, and overall, that title is well deserved. With a rather large price tag, you may think one of these superstar vacs is out of your league. However, when you take into account how easy they are to use, how their durability stands up over time and the fact that you’ll never have to buy another bag or filter, buying one may be one of the best investment decisions you’ve ever made.

The Dyson DC40, the latest mid-sized model, definitely fits this bill. Whether you choose the Origin or the Multi Floor, you’ll be getting the latest technology and bottom line… they both do a fantastic job of cleaning your floors (even deep pile carpet and hardwood), furniture, ceilings, and stairs.

What’s the difference between the Dyson DC40 Multi Floor upright vacuum vs. the Dyson DC40 Origin?

Nothing. It would appear that they are exactly the same vacuum. The Origin is a newer model, but they actually have the same specs, use the same technology and have the same warranty. So, when you’re shopping, keep this in the mind, especially if you can get one cheaper than the other.

How easy is the DC40 to use?

The short answer is – very easy. On this model, you don’t even need to worry about turning the brush roll on and off to transfer between carpet and bare floors. It’s all automatic. In fact, the base plate on the cleaner head adjusts up and down depending on what type of floor you’re vacuuming, as does the brush. This feature means your nice hardwood floors won’t get scratched, and you don’t even have to think about it.

As for maneuverability, that too is easy thanks to the ball on the base of the machine. All the heavy components (like the motor) are housed in the ball, and there are no wheels to get hitched up when turning. Keeping the heaviest part of the Dyson DC 40 components at the base of the vacuum means the balance is much better than that of other vacuum models. Also, since it turns on the ball, it can go in any direction. Turning it is as easy as turning your wrist.

As for attachments, both models of this Dyson DC40 vacuum come with a quick-release wand that’s long enough so you don’t have to stoop over if you want to use it with attachments. There are no separate parts to assemble, and it’s easy to pop out and back into the base unit. The fact that it stretches up to 5 times its length with a maximum reach of 40 feet means you won’t have to move the whole vacuum around to use it. While the vacuum itself is pretty lightweight, it’s nice to vacuum the stairs without having to move it.

Is it good for people with allergies?

Like all Dyson vacuums, the Dyson ball DC40 is certified allergy and asthma friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. With its sealed HEPA system, it really does eliminate every particle current technology allows, so it’s great for people who suffer from these problems. In fact, it captures microscopic dirt and dust particles down to 0.5 microns. This includes mold, bacteria and pollen particles. Many Dyson DC40 reviews from actual users comment on how much really fine dust is in the cup when they go to empty it.

Also, emptying the bin is really hygienic, so you won’t be scattering around the dirt and dust you just picked up. It empties over the trash can by pushing just one button. The filter in the dust container and the one in the base of the unit are both washable as well. Keeping these clean will also help keep the air in your home as clean as possible.

How well does it work?

If you read any Dyson DC40 review, the one thing that is not questioned is the performance and suction of this popular vacuum cleaner. It has the most up to date Radial Root Cyclone technology, which captures more dust and dirt than any of the previous technologies from Dyson. The air in this model spins at such a high rate of speed that pet hair, dander, and dust are flung into the dust bin instead of back into the air.

Dyson has reconfigured the air channels in this new model to increase their efficiency and reduce turbulence. The air pressure is preserved so that the cyclones take more microscopic particles out of the air coming through the vacuum. The only place you’ll find this kind of updated cutting edge technology is inside a Dyson.

The second thing that makes both the Origin and Mult Floor bagless models stand out is their articulating base plate. It moves up and down automatically to keep as close to the floor as possible, creating a seal between the floor and the vacuum. Not only does this mean more stuff gets sucked up, but it also means there is suction all the way across the cleaning head. Many vacuums have poor suction around the edges, but not this one.

The final design decision that makes this vacuum excel is, of course, the patented ball. This new model not only has the motor inside the ball but also many of the components that were outside it on previous models. This means there are fewer parts sticking out of the DC40, making it very streamlined. The ball itself is beyond durable, as it is made from the same type of glass-reinforced polypropylene as is used to make dashboards in cars.

The other parts of the vacuum are made from polycarbonate and ABS, the same materials that are used in the making of riot shields and crash helmets. Although some reviews have speculated on the durability of these “plastic” components, they are tested relentlessly by the manufacturer and seem to be very durable and built to last.

Dyson DC40 Best Price

This top-rated vacuum currently retails for about $$$, but you can save significantly by shopping online. For instance, and they are an authorized reseller, meaning you still get the Excellent warranty. Eventually, it will also be available in a refurbished model, but right now it’s too new to get one at a discounted remanufactured price.

So should I buy it?

If you’re looking for a vacuum that works really well for regular household cleaning and is built to last, this is definitely one you should consider. Overall, ratings are very high and review state over and over how happy owners are.

However, if it’s not in your budget, you may want to choose a slightly less expensive vacuum like the Shark Rotator. See the full Shark Rotator vacuum review here. While it’s not a Dyson, it’s still a good choice.

If you have pets, the DC40 is still a good choice, but the Dyson DC65 or Dyson DC59 (a more compact version of the full size) are also worth checking out, as they come with tools specifically made for this purpose.

The Dc40 is a great vacuum, and if it’s in your budget and suits your lifestyle,
