Bissell CleanView OnePass 9595 – Good Suction Under $100?

We really didn’t expect a vacuum cleaner well under $100 to make into our reviews of the best, but many of us on a budget need a good basic machine to handle cleanup in our homes, and this is it. The Bissell CleanView with OnePass 9595 (or 9595A) has been on the market for a while, and it obviously has staying power as well as cleaning power.

Ease of Use

While the Bissell CleanView isn’t necessarily a lightweight, it does only weigh 15 pounds (same as the Shark Navigator and Rotator), so you shouldn’t find it difficult to push and pull around on either carpets or bare floors. This is good to know, especially if you’ve ever had a huge vacuum that’s hard to handle and maneuver.

As far as going from hardwood floors to carpet, this model has 5-height setting that can be selected from a big dial on the top of the base. This means you can set it at the lowest selection for bare floors up to number 5 for shag or other deep pile carpeting or anything in between as needed.

Power

This CleanView with Onepass has a powerful 12 amp motor, which is actually a bit stronger than the Shark Rotator and Navigator. In fact, in one user review, it was said the suction of this vacuum cleaner can actually pull the fibers out of old carpet. While this won’t happen with carpets that are intact, it’s good to know there is so much suction power behind the Bissell, meaning it does a good job of picking up dirt and other debris.

The OnePass technology is designed to provide more powerful suction so you shouldn’t have to repeatedly go over dirty spots – thus one pass. The brush design is also such that the bristles actually dig deeper into the carpet vs other models, so it gets out more dirt.

Allergies, Pet Hair & Dander

While the Bissell CleanView does a good job on pet hair and even has a turbo brush designed to get dog and cat fur off your furniture, it’s really not designed to take care of the allergies associated with dander. More expensive vacs have HEPA filtration, but this one does not. HEPA filters usually collect about 99% of mold spores, pollen and microscopic dust particles. While this popular brand picks up the hair, it really doesn’t deal with those small particles.

Maintenance

Emptying Dirt Canister

Like with any of the vacuum cleaners on the market today that have washable or rinseable filters, you’ll want to keep these clean. The filters are easy to remove, so just take them out and give them a good hand scrubbing in the sink. Once a month seems to be often enough for most users, however in one user review from a woman who has several pets said she cleans hers about ever 2-3 weeks due to the heavy use.

Cons

One of the most requested feature in user reviews is a brush roll that turns off, and the Bissell 9595 upright bagless doesn’t have it. This means it may scatter kitty litter around your hardwood floors a bit before it actually sucks it up. However, it is a cheap though not cheaply-made, vacuum, so I guess we can’t expect it have all the whistles and bells of a much more expensive model.

If you have pets or are concerned about seriously picking up pet hair and cat litter, it’s worth it to compare the CleanView 9595 to the Hoover Windtunnel 3 Pro Pet. It’s just a bit higher in price and does a great job at these tasks.

The other thing noted in user reviews is that it’s a little too big to fit under a bed, so if this is a concern for you, you’ll need to use the tools that come with it to get all the way under some of your furniture.

Consumer Ratings – Overall Impressions

While you’ll find the Bissell CleanView with OnePass 9595 lacking versus a Dyson, most vacuums are, and for 1/6 the price, this really is a great value for the money. If you need a starter vac or just need a solid affordable machine, this is definitely one of the best you’ll find on the market today.

In customer ratings, users consistently rate this Bissell good stars, which is an excellent rating. The reason it’s so highly rated is because it offers suction more powerful than more expensive models. Even though it may not have as many cool features vs more expensive models, it’s a great vacuum cleaner and a great deal for the price.
