Hoover FloorMate SpinScrub Review – Doesn’t Get in Grout?

If you’re looking for one of the best vacuum cleaners that also washes and dries your hardwood and bare floors, the Hoover FloorMate SpinScrub is a very good option. With high ratings that are well-deserved because of the counter-rotating brushes that dig deep down to remove ground in grime and an affordable price tag, it’s a customer favorite. Most importantly, it replaces both a vacuum and a mop, making your cleaning go much faster and easier.

How Hoover FloorMate SpinScrub Work?

This cleaner has two separate tanks: One for clean water and one for dirty water and debris. The best way to use it is to switch the selector to “vacuum” first. Vacuum the floor. Make sure you’ve filled the clean water container with hot water and added the cleaning solution. Then, set it to “wash”, and go over the floors. Now, the floor has been scrubbed but is wet. Since it’s clear, you can easily see the dirty water collected in the dirty water container. Next, turn the switch to “dry”. The squeegee then goes over the floor and sucks up any water left.

Many users say the easiest way to do this is to go over the floor in sections. First vacuum, then wash, then dry, and then move on to the next area. That way you avoid having an entirely wet floor, and you’re not tracking water around and stepping in it as you move around the room.

When you’re done, remove the dirty water container and dump it out. You can rinse it out at the sink if you wish. If you want the machine to be extra clean, the brushes and nozzle also come off and can be rinsed off at the sink as well.

If you want the cleaner to be ready to go at a moment’s notice, you can leave the clean water and cleaning solution tank full so it’s ready to be used at any time.

How is it different vs the FloorMate Deluxe Hard Floor Cleaner?

While these two machines come from the same reputable company and perform essentially the same functions, there are some important differences. First, the SpinScrub has a slightly smaller water tank size of 32 ounces, yet it does weigh just a bit more. Second, it takes up a lot less space when you want to store it because the handle folds down. Third, the cleaning path width is wider, so you’ll need to make less passes than with the Deluxe model.

By far the most important difference is that the Spin Scrub is a vacuum as well as a scrubber, while the Floormate Deluxe is only a hard floor scrubber. This is a huge difference, especially if you want one machine that performs both tasks.

Floor Types

This model works great on all types of bare floors including hardwood, laminate, vinyl and all types of tile. Review after review from users who use the machine on these different floor types say it works great, and the spin scrub brushes work very well to get dirt from between floor boards and out of grout.

Cons

While user reviews are very favorable, it was noted in one review that this machine doesn’t work as well on floors that are very irregular on the surface. If your floor is smooth and even, the brushes work very well. However, if there are many different levels on your floor, such as highly textured tile or deep grout lines, you may need to do a bit more work to get the bristles to dig into the lower areas.

It has also been noted that this unit is not a steamer. It uses hot water only to clean. While a steam function might be nice, steam also tends to warp laminate floors over time.

Some customers have commented it would be nice to be able to use this on area rugs or low-pile carpet as well as bare floors. It really doesn’t work for this purpose as there is no beater bar on the vacuum, so it won’t dig in like a traditional vacuum. If you’re looking for a carpet cleaner, there are other machines that work better such as the Max Extract 60, Power Scrub Deluxe or Bissell Deep Clean. The Shark Sonic Duo works on both bare floors and carpets, but it’s not a vacuum.

Consumer Reports

People who have purchased and use this scrubber give it 4 out of 5 stars, which is a great rating. If you have tile, hardwood, vinyl or laminate floors that look dirty or you’re just sick of dragging out the vacuum followed by the mop, this machine will be a great fit for you. Since it operates as a vacuum cleaner and a mop/scrubber but also dries the floors when it’s done cleaning, it really replaces a few appliances at a fraction of the price.
